What should I look for when touring an assisted living community ?
I’m planning to visit a few assisted living communities for a family member and want to make sure I’m paying attention to the things that actually matter. Besides the rooms and amenities, what should I ask about or look for during a tour ?

I’d pay attention to how the place actually feels when you’re there. Do the residents seem comfortable? Are the staff friendly and responsive? Does the place feel clean and well looked after? I’d also ask what a normal day looks like, what kind of activities they have, how meals work, and how much help staff can provide with things like medication or daily routines. And definitely ask what happens if your parent needs more care later.
I’d probably visit a few different places before deciding. Sometimes you can learn more from spending 20 minutes there and talking to people than you can from looking at a website.
